    Newbie From Tulsa, OK

    Hello all!

I have an old Ford truck that had the motor lock up last night. That was the second 302 I've put in it and it may be time to give up on this truck. It's old and rusted out.

So, I'm in the market for a used truck. I'm here to learn about GM trucks with LSx type motors. Are there some links that might help me learn what motors came in each year truck?

I'm looking for the lightest truck that came with a LSx style motor. I want good gas mileage and good performance in a truck I'll be driving to work every day. I assume that would be a regular cab short bed? I want to spend as little as possible for a nice good reliable daily driver with a LSx motor. What year should I look for? What was the first year the LSx type motors came in GM trucks?

One more question, what is a "NBS" Silverado?

    Thanks!
    Chris

    Welcome.

99 silverado(not to be confused with classic) got the first lsx. My truck gets close to mid-20's highway and 14-16 in town depending on foot weight. I'm 300lbs myself and have a good 200lbs of audio and mess.

NBS is 99-07 classic body style. Your best bet would be a 5.3 2wd RCSB model from the years stated. The 1/2 tons came with the 4.3 v6, and 4.8 or 5.3 v8s. I'm from McAlester and am going to school in Stillwater if you need anything.

    Thanks for your reply.

I saw the S10 you mentioned. It's really nice, but it's a bit more than I wanted to spend.

It seems like most of these trucks are extended cab or crew cab, and there are lots of 4x4s too. I'm having a bit of a hard time finding a regular cab with a short bed and 2-wheel drive. I've been looking for a 1999 to 2002. I found one, but it has the 4.8 motor in it. I guess I'll keep looking.

They arent easy to find with a 5.3. Most people with them like em enough to keep them around. But worth looking for. How performance minded are you? normal bolt-ons or perhaps cam etc?
