    Installing Walbro Ss340 In An O5. Easy?

    ive read and searched the forum. sounds like some guys just drop it in some sweat the details. i dont have my bucket out yet so i dont have in in front of me. but since my plan is to pull it after work and put it all back, hoping to avoid any pitfalls. ive read it doesnt fit in the bucket well, it doesnt keep the bucket full, it takes 3-4 seconds to start after installation, and the included hose is too short so you have to go looking for some fuel hose that is submersable. what are the facts from someone who has done it.......

    I have done several SS340 Walbro installations. For an 05, it is important to go ahead and break out a section of the bottom of the bucket the FP sits in so that the intake sock on the bottom of the FP is not cradled within the bucket. DO NOT break the bottom out completely--just enough to allow for the sock to hang loose out the bottom.

    Also, (I may be mistaken) you will have to remove a section of the black boot around the outside of the FP so that the metal spring that keeps the FP tight within the bucket makes good contact with the body of the FP, not the black boot that fits snug on the FP.

    The included hose IS shorter. I have actually been fortunate to reuse the existing hose. If you are not able to...between the metal clip helping retain the FP within the bucket and the strength of the hose, it is not the end of the world to let it hang. I have even taken apart the bucket and cut the springs so that they are shorter and allow for the included hose to fit comfortably.

    wouldnt breaking, or maybe dremeling out a section of the bucket for the sock to come out the bottom completely disable any baffling effect of the bucket? i didnt think these tanks have any baffles at all in them and relied soley on the bucket to prevent fuel slosh?

    got a new assym. in today, tore it down and i can see where the pump will definately fit in the factory bucket. the oem pump had a larger strainer just folded in there. im going to do the same. i gues the other large can in there is a fuel pump pulsator and regulator?

    Now that you have seen the bucket and seen how the factory setup works, now you see why I don't like the thought of the sock being crammed in the bucket next to the FP.

    You mention fuel slosh, but I have never had issues with that after installing them that way...

    Not sure if the other can is a pulsator, but yes--there is a FPR in the bucket as well.

    modifications are done. now just need to intall in the truck. waiting for c notch to arrive so i can do it all with bed off. wound up putting in back in the bucket just like oem. looking at it any unused fuel is going right back into the bucket via the return off the regulator and with the two flapper valves in the bottom of the bucket to keep it filled, i think ill be alright. especially at my power level.

    True. Like I said--I have never heard of fuel slosh probs after installing the FP the way I have described. The sock sits so low in the tank that the only time you would get fuel slosh is if you go WOT when you have been driving for miles with the gas light on. And if someone does that and the motor gets starved of fuel, then they are an idiot for trying to WOT with 2 cups of gas in the tank.
