Did you rewire the harness, get an 80e overlay in the PCM, install the 2nd speedometer sensor?

Ok, so it "feels" like it is taking off in 2nd gear or is it 100% for sure taking off in 2nd? Try taking off from a dead stop and going up to 50 mph or so...and count the gear changes.

It might "feel" like it is taking off in second due to the 80e having a long 1st gear and a loose 3600 stall...

If you have done all the wiring and PCM overlay done correctly, it should be taking off in 1st gear...

I concur with this...man with my 80e...3.73 gears and the 3600 yank verter it hang around 3600-4000 and never drops till i let off the gas....i have worked the tune a little though so when i hit 40-45 it locks the verter in 3rd and helps me on the around town driving...4th locks at around 68 for highway

LOL...that is what a stall does---it acts like the tranny is slipping.

With the motor being a 5.3L and you are worried about the converter, did you make sure to use the spacer on the flexplate? Was the converter seated properly to the transmission? Converter properly bolted to the flexplate?

it just felt like it was taking off in second to me but when i went from a dead stop i could count the gears and then it would lock up in 4th at prolly 60 to 70 mph..guess its time to put the cam in now it actually feels like it's slowed me down lol
