Year model differences in 4L80E Trans?

Been reading here for a little bit and finally decided to register and post. I have a 68' C10 truck with a big block in it currently, however I am about to yank the BBC and replace with a 6.0 and 4L80E. I scored an 08' LY9 with only 2700 miles on it already and I am now in the market for a trans.

In my quest to locate a 6.0, I came across a guy that has a complete setup out of an 05' 2500 truck (LQ4), and it was all pulled a few years back when the truck had less than 1000 miles on it. He is willing to separate his setup for a pretty good deal, but I'm wondering if there are any major differences between the 4L80E from the 05' truck and what would normally be in an 08' truck?

Thanks for any advice on this!

Well the 08 has a completely different trans....6L. There are at least two NNBS (GMT900 for smart folks ) 4L60 to 4L80 swaps happening right now on this site. Some are working on the bugs. I bet there will be a write up soon.

For your sitch I'd go with the newer LY9 and the older 4L80 from the split deal.

Thanks....if I can make this deal happen that is my plan. I've already bought the 08' LY9, now hoping to get my hands on the 05' 4L80E....just wanted to make sure I wouldn't run into any issues with that.

Im glad you asked that Rreemo. I was also wondering what to look for in a 4L60E when searching for one for my 5.3 LH6 project as far as differences there might be between a car or truck trans.

He was asking about an 80e. If your looking for a 60e then you might as well go for a flt trans otherwise youll have issues with it going out.

What tranny do you have now? Big block I'm assuming a TH400 if its an auto? If that's the case, things should match up pretty good I would guess, considering the similarities between the 400 and 80e.
