    Thunder Racing Custom Camshaft
"Old Man Truck Cam" - 214/220 .600/.523 115 LSA 2 This is the perfect cam for someone looking for a stock range power band and stock sounding idle. Significant horsepower gains throughout the RPM range. No computer tuning required. Due to the fast ramp rate of this camshaft, the use of 1.8 rockers is not recommended.

^Thats from the thunder racing site. Sounds like what he is looking for. I run it and decently happy with it. Its not a 224r or nothing but nice.

Is there anything "off the shelf" so to speak that is relatively inexpensive? He also needs lifters since one of his is making noise.

A cam like this is a good reccomendation...
A cam with a Higher LSA is better for low end. Lower LSA is better for higher end, to an extent. Thunder Racing - Performance Parts for your Late Model Musclecar! Camaro, Firebird, Trans Am, Corvette, Impala SS, Mustang, Cobra, Truck, GTO Has alot of cams/ packages for under $600.00

I think what your friend really needs is a new torque converter. At least a 3000 stall speed. Either that or a 5.3/6.0 swap.

I bet he has large primary headers too...

He wants a little more power for when he tows or from a dead stop. He does not have a lot of money though.

You better tell your buddy to start saving. Does he already have a tune? If not, then he'll be spending 200-500 right there. Lifters are $130, a good used cam is usually 200+, then all the other crap adds up quick.
