How about a little more info about your truck, tire sizes, mods you've made already, future mods you're planning, and what you intend to use the truck for primarily.

tires are 285-50-20
its the truck in my sig. with a 5.3
already has intake, exhaust, built trans, shift kit, 2800 stall
future mods are cam, headers, maybe some kind of forced induction way down the road
its my daily driver but i want a fast street truck. im not worried about gas mileage.

anyone running 4.56 in a rcsb?
4.10 gets my vote on this one.

Being of the few guys with a LIFTED truck... other forums I'm on, taller gears are A LOT more common.
If you are going forced induction (not sure why everyone keeps saying FI...i keep thinking fuel injection)...you'll probably want 3.73 or 4.10.
If you are going n/a and aren't worried about fuel mileage 4.56 will help times. HOWEVER. The 8.6 rear (disc) or 8.5 (drum) rear ends are pretty tiny, and once you go to a 4.56, there isn't much meat left to the gear...aka BOOM if you beat on it too bad. Tons of guys with bigger tires go for a 4.56 and most end up swapping rears shortly after.
I wouldn't go any larger then a 4.10 in the 10 bolt you have now. If you want to get a ford 9", or corporate 14 bolt, then by all means 4.56.
blown transmissions are about as useful as 97% of the guys on this forum

I had a 05 ccsb 2wd lifted with some 35's. After the lift I went from 3.73-4.56's, and an aburn locker... made a HUGE difference. Shortly after I put some LT's, cai, shift kit and servos. Thing would actually run pretty good on those big tires. But the tranny went out pretty quik with the shift kit. Had it shifting wwwaaayyy too hard, it would leave 2-5ft black lines if it hit 2nd at WOT on any pavement. Even driving it that hard I never had any problems with the rearend. So I think if you beef the rearend up with a good locker then go with the 4.56's unless your serious about not staying n/a. Might be alot of fun on the street but the highway would be a different story. 4.10's-4.56's seems like a big jump to me. I think motive makes some 4.30's, that may be your best bet. Good luck bud
