    Budget Head

I am looking to get a set of heads for the 4.8 I want some thing that is going to flow good, and I want to have them milled to raise the compression to about 11:1. What is a good head for the money? I am just not looking to spend 2,000 on a set of heads for the 4.8. If you have a place and a price that would be great, I need some thing with a core swap because i can't have my truck down for more than the time it takes me to swap the heads.
    Step 1. crus at it.
    Step 2. get a hammer.
    Step 3. torch it.

honestly budget isnt a word to use in the LS world

but if you want a head look into a set of PRC 5.3 heads. problem with you wanting big compression from a 4.8 is its going to be near impossible to do it. youre already starting off with a 61cc chamber. you can only mill a head so far before he dek is too thin. tossing any other head on is only going to send you in the opposite direction. Your best best is the new TFS heads and have those milled since they run a 3/4 thick dek. that gives you more meat to take off but down fall is once your 4.8 dies yoru SOL with a head that has been milled to around 54 or 55 cc

    Some milled 243's off LS6/LS2

wont get to 11-1 but up around 10-1

be into them for much less than $1,000 and will
flow all that 4.8 is good for anyway.

I wouldnt get hung up on 11-1 compression thing.

either port and mill your stock truck heads
or gets some used 243's and just mill them.
You'll be in the 9.5 - 10.0 compression area, which is fine with a healthy cam

there isnt enough meat on a 243 casting to be safely milled enough to raise compression up to 10.0. your starting off at 61cc at 9.5 with the stock heads. 243 are 64.5 and that takes your compression to 9.0. you would have to mille them roughly .03 to get to 9.5. then you would need roughly another .03 to reach 10.0. thats roughtly .06 on a head that only has a .5 deck. with that muc off the heads you shoudl angle mill them and then have intake matched up. not worth it for minimal gains

every .5cr is only worth 15-20 hp this goes up and down for CR

On a 4.8 just P&P, valve job & mill your stock 862s that's the best bang for the buck
