I bought a cylinder head from Harbor Auto Used Parts Division . The head arrived perfectly clean. Actually it arrived too perfectly clean. They steam cleaned the head when they took it off the car and then put it on a shelf for storage until sold, in New England. As anyone with any sense knows you must put something on bare metal to keep it from rusting. Well, I regress, these guys don't know that. I paid for the head and astronimical shipping prices only to recieve a DOHC head from them that was rusted, pitted and the cams were seized due to corrosion. I called them and their answer was "that's the way we always do it" and "you want a new head for a used head price" and "we deal with mechanics every day and mechanics are never wrong". I just wanted one that was good as they claimed. Next, they wanted me to ship it back to them so they could ship me another one. I was responsible for one way shipping and they would pay shipping back to me. Rather than to wait for two weeks for another head I just absorbed the costs and paid $250 to have the head rebuilt.
Sorry, just had to vent my frustration. Maybe someone will read this and think about putting corrosion preventatives on parts being stored after cleaning all the oils off of them.
