To save money I was planning on using the wiring harness that came with my LS1. I talked to a guy up around Dallas and he said to use an S&P harness instead because it was easier to install. The harness I have is already installed on the engine and I'm sure there are a few wires that I won't be using but I think it will work fine. The guy I bought the engine from already removed the VATS out of the computer and flashed it for gearing, tires, etc.... What do you guys recommend?

    Thanks, Lance

It basically boils down to how much is your time worth to you. I would use the factory harness and just clean it up ( remove unusable wires ) that's what I did with my 04 harness. It's not that hard if you get a schematic. But if your not comfortable with it by all means get a reworked harness from another source. That's my $.02

If you feel comfortable I say go for it! I did mine and it was easy for me. You will need all the diagrams from the donor and your truck. You will also need a fuse/relay block to add to the new setup among other things.

Thanks for the replies! I love a challenge so I'm going to go with the original harness. GMCWantsLS1, what type of fuse block would you recommend? I have the truck dealer manual but I need to get the 2002 wiring diagram. Does anyone here happen to have the pinouts?

I reworked my 2002 harness. I went and got the mating connectors for the inline harness connectors in the harness already. I have it set up so that the whole engine harness is disconnectable and every connection is watertight. Also all power circuits are fused as designed by GM. It's worth spending the time to do this right so it doesn't become a problem in the future. If you need part numbers for the connectors let me know.

Awsome info here again! PSWired, I"ll let you know when I receive the motor on Thursday what I'm gonna need. Thanks for the input bro. RedHeartBeat, I got your email and I think you just put me into overdrive with the wiring pinouts. I'm going to make a complete installation guide with part #'s on this swap so we'll have it.
