00 actually use the 4x6's???
Isn't there a place for 6.5's in the door?

Turn the amp down a little for the rear speakers. I did this but I also have 4 6.5 components up front so I really don't hear the rear speakers they are just there to fill in the void. I also have kicker speakers.
I cut for 6.5's in the rear doors of my 2000 Z71. I used the Eclipse se6500 and they fit perfectly. I think you have 2" of mounting depth without having to space the speaker and modify the inside of the door panels.

thanks guys, i already had turn down the gain and also used some bass blockers i was thinking of cutting out a hole to stuff a 5.25 or a 6.5 speaker do you have any pics lo-lyf of the install ?
Bass blockers create silent distortion. When I was doing installs all of the installers hated them
Are you talking about rear speakers???. If so forget about them. Instead bridge the 4 channel to better front speakers

What are the specs on the amp that is pushing the rear speakers? My understanding is that distortion is what destroys the speakers, not "too many watts". I had a friend who owned a car audio store(JL Audio & Clarion dealer), and his belief was that overpowering was better for a speaker than underpowering. Distortion is your enemy.

nah, cut the rears for 6.5, I promise you will not be disappointed. You will be amazed at how much sound actually comes from the rear with a decent set of 6.5s. I ran the base model Eclipse 6.5s in all 4 corners in my white truck on a Rockford Power 400.4 with the crossover set at 400hz and it would scream like nobody's business. I've done components up front in some trucks and cut out the rears completely and it did sound alright. There is nothing at all wrong with doing it that way, you just lose some sound that you could still have with a better speaker in the rear. I don't know why they decided to use the cruddy 4x6's anyway. oval speakers are all turds.

I don't have pics of my previous install but I am about to cut a buddy's truck for 6.5s and I am also about to cut mine so I can get pics of those two installs. Problem is it might be a month before I do it. It is a fairly easy install if you have an air body saw. $22 harbor freight special works fine. put a dynamat xtreme or fatmat speaker kit over the hole and cut it for the speaker and you are done. make sure the speaker fits in there before you torque it down or you can mess up your body panels. I know for sure that the Eclipse se6500 works without any depth issues. I think there is only 2" mounting depth so you are kinda limited on what you can put back there. Let me know if you need any help on it.

thank you everyone the amp I'm running is a infinity reference 475a the specs
75x4 @ 4ohms and 90x4 @ 2ohms I did run some infinity kappas that were 2 ohms the took a good time before they blew close to a year the I had some MB Quarts 2ohms I only have one speaker working the other blew and well I had some other speakers which blew quick I'm thinking of just installing some 6.5 I had a air saw and a air hammer with a cutting tip I have to cut sheet metal with makes clean cuts I did some research the eclipse se6500
which are 1 7/8 = 1.87500 and I did check my truck I got about 2 in of depth so now I'm just looking around for speakers. This install is easy I remember the the time my fuel pump went bad in my T/A I was lazy to drop the tank and the mufflers I just cut a hole on the trunk took me like 30 mins to swap the pump out I love the air hammer made a clean cut the I just bent the sheet metal back and covored it back with carpet/amp I had mounted on there
