    My Rear!!! My Rear!!!

I was backing out of the driveway this morning and as I turned out onto the road, the rear end made a couple of loud popping noises. It was acting like the rear was locked because the back right tire was chirping as I was turning. Once I got straightened it seemed fine so I went a little further to make another turn. Same thing happened. Made a couple of pops and the back right was locked again. Its only supposed to lock when the pass. side slips right? Anyway, I got straightened up and then it made one more loud pop and started making ticking noises as I went down the road. The faster I went, the faster the ticks got. So what did I mess up?

Sounds like you should pull the diff cover and check your gears. Or take it to the dealer. Better yet, Have the dealer come pick it up from you. What you're describing sounds like when my spider gears decided to desintegrate.

It should not lock up turning either direction....that's the point of a limited slip type....to lock up when one spins in a straight line but unlock in turns. If you have a G80 it's probably broken....the flywheel and ratchet thingie prolly snapped.

Classic description of a broken grenade80 diff. You could get GM to warranty it, but if you're hard on your truck it will probably just break again. If you plan on putting down some power later on, now's the time to upgrade to a tru-trac or eaton posi. Stop driving the truck ASAP, hopefully your ring & pinion are still okay.

I wouldn't mind doing that since I do have the 100k powertrain waranty on it, but then I would have to have Virgil come all the way up here to take my tune off. I know it sounds soon to some of you because its an '07, but the truck is 2 yrs old with 41k on the clock.
