gen3 and gen4 5.3L motor

i finally found some motors for the 82 c10 and ill be picking one up hopfully tomorrow. the motor i found is out of a 07 silverado, it is the new gen4 5.3L with active fuel management and a 05 5.3L. i want to get the newer motor because of the lower miles. is the swap the same as a gen3 motor or is it different, what will i have to do to delete the active fuel management.

its different,it wont work unless u get the harness since the reluctor wheels r different

either way you'll need a new harness so either will probably be the same amount of work. just with the Gen IV you'll need a 07+ ecm and tcm and a newer trans to match. the good thing is if you get a gen IV and E38 ECM you can run a 6 speed auto also.

the gen4 motor that i plan on getting has everything inplace all electrical and mechanical parts, pcm and even the tranny. will it be a good swap or should i get the older motor. i plan on nelson performance to rework the harness.

call nelson first to make sure he can make the Gen IV harness work with your truck and if he says no problem I would get the Gen IV for sure.

go gen IV !!!! itll have 799 casting heads which are the same as 243 and are worth big bucks. the springs in them are good to .650 lift and the intake flows the exact same as the ls6. better engine IMO. thats why i bought a 07 to put in my 1988. oo yea u can make any trans work behind it with the right adapter. im putting a th400 behind mine.

im going with the gen4 motor. also its an aluminum block. i was planing on running a TH400 but i got a good deal on the tranny. im picking up the motor tomorrow, and ill post some pics.

correct about everything except the springs. the valve springs are standard truck springs only good to about .510 lift.

i remember reading somewhere they use the same springs as well....? gonna have to double and triple check that...

trust me, the valve springs are standard issue truck springs. they are the blue springs. if they were yellow they would be the LS6/LS2 springs good to about .575" but they're not.
