    5.3L and 5-speed questions.

    Hey guys,

I'm new to the forums here. didn't find a whole lot in my search.

    I have a 1991 K1500 with the TBI and factory 5-speed manual.

I want to put in a 5.3L. I know about the engine mount plates already and whatever wiring and such. all i would need is wiring diagrams.

    but my biggest question is...

will i be able to use the factory 5-speed with the 5.3L ? i don't want to have to convert to the automatic. i like manual trans.

Any info you guys can provide would be most welcome!

    Thanks!

possibly depending on the model of trans. the 4.8 came with the NV3500 and the 6.0 came with the NV4500

    2002 Silverado - 427Lsx w/ Twin gt4202s
    2010 Silverado crewcab Z71 - 5.3litre w/ procharger
    2000 Wrangler - 5.3litre with some stance

it ain't that I'm too big to listen to the rumors, It's just that I'm too damn big to pay attention to 'em..That's the difference

They make a spacer to move the crank snout outwards. Not sure if it would work with a flywheel though. You could try a 99-2000 LQ4 that already has the longer crankshaft. I'm still not sure if the flywheel has the correct diameter and teeth for an LSx type starter and if the teeth are at the correct depth. You could try it and see. If you want to run the stock transmission setup, you'll need to bolt the engine in with just the adapters bolted to it and check the location of the mount cups. DBRODS is doing an OBS conversion right now and he has moved his engine setup back 1" to bolt right to the old engine position. Adapters are made for this setup, also. You may have to get a custom pilot bearing made to press into the crank to support the input shaft of your transmission. Any machine shop can make it for you out of brass.

hmmm...sounds like i might need to just find me a t56 from an LS1 to drop behind it...might be easier....although that raises another question on if the transfer case will bolt up to it or not....

lol! all i know is i am getting tired of having to use starting fluid to get this dern thing started....lol!

    5 speed

I have a friend that put a 6.0 in front of an old 4 speed in an 82 3/4 4x4 that hes using as a pulling truck. When he first put it in he used a stock 5.3 flywheel. I'm not sure if he used a spacer or anything on the flywheel. I do know he did end up buying an aftermarket flywheel from pace perfomance that was made for the swap.

I talked to my friend at work last night and he said that you will also need a special pilot bearing. Here is the part number for the bearing 12557583. And heres is a part number for a flywheel thats suppose to be for the non ls trans 12561680. Im not sure if the flywheel will work or not but like I stated yesterday pace does sell one.
