It appears you definitely have the ego and mouth of a dealer tech with a dose of immaturity on top. You are probably the kind of tech that calls TAC to set up a case before you even open a hood too. Scary to think what kind of information you have been giving out in this forum with your 2,900 posts to these young and impressionable guys that come here looking for accurate information. As Midevil1 stated, they think the more posts you have the smarter you are which is furthest from the truth. This is certainly not a very welcoming website for newbies so I will make this my last post.
Not everybody knows everything so there is no reason to come off half cocked like you do. You might be knowledgeable on the LS engines. I happen to be more privy to the big blocks and GMT800 and 900 trucks.
Regarding the Avalanche
1) 2002 – 2006 GMT800 platform 2500 series Avalanches had the 8.1L as standard equipment. The 6.0L was not even an option nor was the 5.3L.
2) For the new 2007 GMT900 Avalanche the 2500 series was dropped all together along with the 8.1L. However, the L76 6.0L became an option.
Here are just a few pieces of information on the 2002-2006 GMT800 based Avalanche 2500 that discuss the standard 8.1L engine.

Under the Hood
Available with rear- or four-wheel drive, the Avalanche 1500 holds a 295-horsepower, 5.3-liter V-8 that generates 335 pounds-feet of torque. The four-speed-automatic transmission has a tow/haul mode. Autotrac four-wheel drive automatically distributes power to the front and rear wheels to maintain traction. The Avalanche 2500 packs a 325-hp, 8.1-liter V-8 that yields 447 pounds-feet of torque.

If you don’t believe the websites above go see your truck sales people in the front office at your dealership and dig up an order guide from 2002 through 2006 and see for yourself.
BTW….even though the 8.1L was dropped at the end of 2006 model year Silverado/Sierra/Suburban/Yukon, the 8.1L is alive and well and still available in medium duty trucks, Workhorse Custom Chassis and marine (Volvo Penta & Mercruiser). Unfortunately, the Tonawanda, NY engine plant is scheduled to end production of it later in 2009 as they will be building the new 4.5L diesel. At this point, it is looking like another manufacturer will be purchasing the 8.1L engine platform from GM for use in medium duty trucks, stationary engines, marine applications and RVs. So it looks like we still have many years of 8.1L production to later swap into our rides. It is a great engine that is poorly supported in the aftermarket. I have another one going into a 1968 GMC project soon.
