    5.3/6.0 cam

I have a 2004 Silverado RCSB with a 5.3 in it, I'm looking to add some serious horsepower but I'm trying to get the best bang for my buck. Current mods are Nelson Tune, Cat Back, and K & N intake. I was planning on putting a TR 220 cam with 114 LSA in but I'm not sure if I want to put on the supporting mods, such as long tube headers and torque converter.. The reason being is I don't want to deal with leaking headers and I also don't wasn to go to the trouble of dropping out my transmission. I've also thought about the fact that if I'm going to all the trouble of putting a cam in/dopping the transmission why not just swap in a 6.0. I've looked around and found that I could probably buy a LQ4 for about the price I could sell my 5.3. I want to run my stock exhaust manifolds, but I don't know what cams I can run in either motor with them. Depending on which motor I went with, what cam/cams would be a good choice for my daily driver? Thanks

well with all those things you DONT wanna do!! you'll never see seriuos HP. rethink whatcha wanna do then come back so we can help...

seems right now youre confused in what youre wanting to accomplish with your truck, that RCSB is a great platform to make some seriuos HP but you have to be seriuos to accomplish that..

The converter is the easiest swap that you've mentioned, next to headers, and you've decided you don't want to do either one?

exactually lol.. didnt wanna leave the guy hanging without at lease temping to give some half azz advice but everything he needs he doesnt wanna do!! so with that said his best option is to stay stock of you ask me.. personally with any kind of cam change it will still need to be supported with something to get what its worth out ..

Do an LS6 cam and it will work decent with your manifolds and your stock converter will agree with it pretty well. You got to take things apart and spend money to make HP......and take more apart and spend more money to make "serious" HP. Do that LS6 cam, Underdrive pulley, and some electric fans and you might be happy for a while! I am installing an LS6 in a boys 4.8 right now so his dad dont know about it! lol He is also in the same boat as you!

you see he mad a funny but what is worse if you come to Arkansas thats there is the top line drag truck. Ive actually heard people brag about having that.

Listen to these guys if you want to make power. Do the E fans and such. But make your decision now. I have to swap my cam out again because I started wanting HP now I want serious HP. Either way get a Stall man. Go ahead and get the shift kit and servos while you are at it. Just to get your tranny where it will rock with whatever you do. Dont be like me I never upgraded my tranny and now i get SLIPPAGE!!

i would go with a z06 cam, a pulley and lt headers. headers are simple and easy to do. if done right they will never ever leak.

That's what I've decided to do. I already have the 05+ truck fans and tr220 114 lsa cam with dual valve springs. I still need the get the trailblazer torque converter (I was told this would be a good match for my cam), shift kit and servos, and pacesetter long tubes w/ORY. I would also like to put on a ls6 intake but I don't want to fabricate my accessory drive to make it fit; I heard you can use the f-body accessories to make this work, but I'm not sure(I've only heard). I see that you're planning on putting a trailblazer ss intake manifold on your truck.. do you know what all is involved in doing this? Do you have to modify the truck accessories to make the TBSS intake manifold fit or will it go on without any clearance issues?

I lucked out and got the complete set up off of a member who was demodding his truck. I believe all you need is a fuel rail crossover. A extension on one sensor and thats about it. And you use the same acc drive. Its alot easier than the ls6 swap. OHH if i could do it over again I would look into gettin the edlebrock or weiland intake for the ls engines. They look sweet and supposed to have more up sides then the swaps already named.
