I would agree. More than likely 4l60e if its stock.

I would think the vin could help with that. Just google for vin decode for chevrolet. Use the wiki or something that gives what the digits define as.

The 700 something you are saying is that one of the transmission options? 700r4 and 4l60e are similar. Correct me if I am wrong please.

you can on the side of the tranny and see if it says 4l60e on it. but u have to lay on ur back and crawl under the truck.

the reason im askin this is because the 700r uses 5 quarts of fluid and the 4l60e uses 3. the guy told me that mine was more than likely the 700r because it has overdrive. and i guess that wouldnt even matter lol. but anyway.. i went ahead and bought 5 quarts and put it in and im guessing its leaking what it dont need out (if it even does that). but yea... my dad said that if i put too much in it could blow the seals. is this correct? could have i already messed it up?

Short of drive to KY and doing it for you, check the fluid level. I would have put 3 in and checked it then, rather than assuming it took 5. But that is just me.

Oh, and a 4l60e has overdrive too.

Three won't be enough for either. I can tell you for sure with the VIN.

both trannys use 5.0 quarts of oil when you change out the fluid. So you should be ok.

A shallow early 60 or 700 takes about 4. The stepped deeper pans on the newer ones take about 5.
