Hey guys, I hope this answers some of your questions. I know I didn't cover everything (oh like fuel pump, just thought of it), but it's a start. If anybody wants to add to it just reply and we'll update the document. Someday it might turn into an offcial doc, hahah.

Commonly asked questions for ls1 swaps.

I have a few questions that are not answered in that great article. I want to swap an LS6 into my Z-71. Naturally I'll want to retain my 4wd Capabilities. What transmission and transfer case would be the best way to go with the LS6? I have never seen an Ls6 swap in a Z-71 and that's why I want to do it. I"m gonna need all that horsepower to push my 38X16.5X16 Bfg M/t's.

The rear of the 4l60e seems to be the same for both the tbi and the ls1 engines. I wonder if you could swap the engine and tranny but use your transfer case?
Like you said no one has done this, to my knowledge, so from view you'll be first. I bet it can be done fairly easy. Just stay on it and i'm sure you'll accomplish it.

i don't have any other info besides that, but it seems attainable.

    38 inch tires, damn,

Just my opinion, but you will probably want more of the torque than the horsepower to push the 38's around, but it shouldn't be a problem. I had an 90 S10 with 33" tires running stock 4.3L and 700R4 (I think thats what it had) tranny. I would do the LS6 and build more torque into it. But hey I am just a newbie.

Yea, tq is your best friend. I'd even look into a built 6.0 for that.

Basically your best bet is to try and fit them together, if you run into a problem, then you can think about what you need to finish it or have it made. Something like this, were you haven't seen it done. You are basically the test pig for it.

ya, domes is right to push that big truck a 6L will be better, bigger cubes equal more tq. Plus, you may even be able to go with 4.56 gears, 4.10's on my tahoe with 33's is just fine, low rpms on the highway.

do it, you'll be the first and be known,

    good luck,
