5.3 running poorly

2000 5.3L 2wd, runs ok part throttle but seems to just make a lot of noise past that--revs come up as they should, but doesn't feel like it's making the power it should. No service soon light, no indications of anything wrong that I can see. Partially plugged converter has crossed my mind, maybe related to my trans problem as posted a bit earlier? Highway mileage seems ok, 20 or so on the last trip I checked it on, doesn't seem to be suffering in town either. Any ideas on simple things to check?

how many miles? clean the maf and the throttle body, its a starting point

89k or so miles, cleaned the tb and iac maybe 3000 miles back, haven't cleaned the maf though.....have several cans of electric motor cleaner--that work? Evaporates without residue similar to brake cleaner.......

It probably would be ok, but throttle body cleaner will work better, plus your engine can burn it and it won't hurt anything.

Im having the same problem with my 01. With normal driving its fine, but as soon as you hit 3600 rpms with a load on the pedal, a noticable ticking/nocking sound starts. Its seems to be faster with half to 3/4 throttle than at full. Im getting ready to just go shoot it. If anyone can tell me what is going on that would be awesome.

Clogged converters/bad gas = detonation. thats what i was told.

Mine's been detonating at 1/2 throttle plus since I got it......clogged converter has crossed my mind with the cruddy performance.

Cats... get some headers and an Off road y pipe. At least check the cats.
