1999 Tahoe 6.0 turbo swap Need Advice (Help)

    Hello Guys,

My Name is Noah and I am new on here. I have been searching this forum but need to pick your guys' brain a little. I have a 1999 Tahoe that I have been building for a few years now and after all the chassis work has been done I have decided that I want to change the 5.7 motor out for an LS style 6.0 liter and 4l80e trans. One of my business partners is into turbochargers and has convinced me to put a single turbo onto my setup.

This is my dilemma now I have a complete LQ4 engine and 4l80e trans setup from a 2000 hd truck but I need to know what I need to use to put it in my truck. I am a good mechanic but am wondering what mounts kits to use and what wiring is needed to adapt the 6.0 motor and tranny computers to my 1999 tahoe. I know someone on here can steer me in the right direction so I don't waste time and money. I am just excited to get this guy on the road.

The other question is about the engine setup. I have planned to use a 74mm-76mm turbo, the stock 6 liter manifolds and fab up a kit with a front mount cooler. I only want to run about 6 lbs and be able to put it up to 10lbs on seldom occasions and was wondering what would be required for the motor to handle the boost? Anyone running the stock manifolds? Injectors size? I am at the least going to put some MLS gaskets on and ARP studs and make sure the tune is extra safe but I would love your suggestions.

Thank you guys for the help and I will keep you posted with pics as I go forward with this project.

PLEASE reply with ANY suggestions and Thanks Again.

As for the turbo setup, check out our site sponsor, Trick Performance, for a complete front mount turbo setup. He's got that all worked out already. The 99 is the OBS engine setup. Check out the OBS conversion topics for information about swapping from the 5.7 to the 6.0L. If you have any specific questions not answered in the conversion topics, ask them directly and we'll do our best to answer them one by one.

I´ll be doing the exact setup on a 86 c10 I think that yours will be a little less difficult, welcome to the site and congrats on your ride, I´ll be awesome for sure, But instead of a turbo I´ll try to get a supercharger roots or twin screw.

the guys on the forum are awesome and you´ll get all the info you need for sure

You wont have to change a damn thing to run 6lbs let alone 10. Ive got a 5.3 and those things are good to about 10lbs. Since you have a 6.0 you should have no worries running 10 on a stock block.

Run at least 10# all the time. It is safe. 12# on pump gas with a stock motor and a spot on tune is about the limit, but I ran 11# with a really rich tune for about a year no problems. You will save mucho time and fab going with a trick set up over fabing your own stuff, and his parts are quality and customer service is awesome... and yes i have his parts.

I am going to be doing a twin set up with Rick as soon as I get the LS into the 90 model so I really suggest going that route.

Your fuel system will need to be upgraded as well. With that size turbo, on a 6.0 running 10psi you will probably need 60# injectors and a bigger fuel pump. You might want to think about methanol injection to help with IAT's and add a little more hp.
