    Starter wires

On the 5.3 starter there are 3 posts on the starter. With engine in truck. The biggest post closest to frame goes to battery hot. The small post on solenoid goes to ignition. The big post next to engine whats this go to? Is this a ground? I was thinking it was a ground but on the old 5.0 starter there are only 2 posts (hot wire and solenoid)

    Thanks

Should just ground to the block right?

I checked autozone repair. They gave a torque spec for the positive battery cable to starter connection, no others listed, so im gonna go with no.

DO NOT!!!ground the starter to the block. The negative battery cable should go to the block by the starter and the large post closest to the frame is the positive battery cable. The purple wire goes to the starter relay. The starter is grounded when bloted to the block.

There is not supposed to be anything hooked to the 3rd post. Forget it's there.

so got the new starter on and plugs in. Now can crank with key. but..... not getting any spark. I would possible think it would be coils but all 8 wouldn't be bad. Does this most likely sound like a ground not being on causing this? I have checked the fuses with the nelson wiring and am getting power to the diagnostic light etc.

didn't want to have all bad news. Oil pressure builds very fast. Just a step a way I can feel it.

Should ground to the block = grounds itself when bolted to the block.

Yep, I might have misinterpreted your statement when he posted "The big post next to engine whats this go to? Is this a ground?" and you posted "Should just ground to the block right?".
