Question Swapping 00' steering wheel for new style 03'-06'

How can you modify a 03' wheel to fit in a 00' truck.??? the 03 wheel is splined diff. I was wondering if anybody has tried it or has any ideas. The most obvious way is to just swap the whole column out but that would be a PITA, I could also bore the hole to fit but IDK how I would secure the wheel to keep it from free spinning.... that would be pointless if if wouldn't stay secure

let the thought process begin.. surely someone has done it or made an attempt

Splined different and also the part of the turn signal cancel cam comes up in a different location i believe. I was going to do the same thing to a 98' column and i got a new steering wheel out of a newer truck for like 5 dollars off of ebay. If it would have worked out, you can find leather and wood GM wheels for like 70 bux on ebay....teh wood feels so nice.

Yeah the spline thing is what i'm stumped with at this point, not really worried a bout the rest of the stuff. I need some ideas on modding the wheel to fit the shaft, I'm just looking for some more ideas

If you are thinking about having it for the steering wheel radio controls--forget it. Not only is it a PITA to swap them out, the internal wiring harness does on have the specific wiring to the headunit. You would need a whole new underdash wiring harness to make it work.

And all of those functions of the switches on the steering wheel go thru the BCM, which you do not have.
