I hopped over here at the suggestion of Damn Yankee on another forum. You guys have been really helpful, thanks for welcoming me.

I'm in Eastern Idaho and it's 1 degree outside right now, we had a blizzard yesterday so it's obvious I'm not doing much with my ride.

I had (past tense) a 2000 Durango R/T 5.9, it was taken out last month when some idiot was going to fast to stop on the slick roads and slid into my wife. By the way, if you are ever hit by someone, hope they are insured with Enumclaw, they were awesome. Anyhoo, With the settlement I paid off the D and picked up a 2000 Tahoe with the 5.3. We're really enjoying it. It's not my goal to turn it into a race truck but I do like to do some things to pick up some small improvements in efficiency/performance and help things last longer with less repairs.

Welsome to LS1truck.com! DamnYankee is one of our Moderators here and is a good guy. He also has a really nice truck that has a monster motor--that we swapped not that long ago... You picked up a good vehicle--not need for worries about reliability on that thing--as long as you don't get too crazy with the mods! The weak point is the tranny, so keep the mods to a minimum and you'll be fine. Sorry to hear about your 5.9...
To start off with, I would recommend doing a CAI and some exhaust work (if the wifey doesn't mind a little rumble. You could do some mid-length headers to improve the lower and mid-range torque numbers. A new muffler is needed too. You could also do some 05 stock e-fans and some pulleys. Besides that, a custom tune needs to be done as well. Contact Allen Nelson for all of your tuning needs.

Thanks guys. I have a complete set of summer rims and tires in my garage from the D. When it starts to warm up I plan on selling them. First on the list is rubber for the Bonneville but I plan on a K&N FIPK II with the rest. I had an Airaid on the D and liked it but in looking at the K&N intake tube vs the Airaid intake I think the K&N will be less restrictive. I pu a Spintech muffler and 3" tailpipe on my 98 Ram. It lets it exhale better and gives it just a little rumble, not as loud as some, but a nice little tone at idle and under acceleration. My wife doesn't mind and in fact likes the sound on the Ram. It looks like the 'Ho already has a 3" tailpipe so all I'll need to do is put in a muffler, I'm gonna stick with the Spintech. That's really all the mods I had in mind, let it breath in and out easier. I did buy new plugs and wires but think I'll wait until the roads thaw. I want to get a good feel for it and it's mileage before I change anything so I can look for differences. It will need an oil change next month and I plan on putting Royal Purple in it. If I can scrape up the cash I'd like to put RP in the tranny as well. Sounds like everyone pretty much agrees that a little attention to the tranny won't be time or money wasted. Thanks for the feedback. What do the fans and pulleys do, are they spendy?

Other side of the state. Idaho is kinda three different states. There is north Idaho with the panhandle, western Idaho (the Boise area), and eastern Idaho. I'm in eastern Idaho, just over 300 miles from Boise, just over an hours drive from West Yellowstone, about 45 minutes from Island Park (if you fly fish you've heard of it) maybe just under 90 minutes from Jackson Hole. Lots of people love the Boise area. The climate is moderate, there is a university there, it's close to the mountains, there is an army base about an hour east of there, and lots of smaller suburbs surrounding it. I have a good friend who went to school there. He says the nice thing about Boise is that no matter where you are, residential wise, you feel like you are in a small town. I mountain bike a little and Mountain BIke magazine once put Boise in the top ten places to live for mountain bikers. It was based only partly on the closenes of the hills, it was also based on the numerous bike paths, the climate, growth, culture, university, all variables, not just those related to biking. I grew up in a small town and prefer them so I't not my bag but I know a lot of people who really like the place.

The Pulleys are about $250 for the crank and alternator pulley. Hit Man X on our site has some pop up every know and then for $235 shipped to your door. Chekc out the For Sale section when you get a chance and see when he gets the ASP pulley set... It may be on page 2 or 3. The e-fans can be the stock 05 setup or you can get LS1 fans--or an aftermarket kit like T-Fal, Flex-a-lite, Trick, etc. The LS1 fans will be the cheapest, the stock 05s will be second cheapest, and then the other aftermarket stuff is even pricer than that... Keep an eye out on the For Sale sections of the forums and also check out Ebay. Godd deals pop up every now and then...
