    New guy from AZ

Hey everyone, I'm Kevin, a new guy from the Phoenix area. I'm a writer and photographer for several custom car and truck magazines, and I've also been amassing a collection of trucks in the yard for projects. I've built quite a few cars and trucks in the past, but more recently I've been focusing on Chevy trucks.

Let's take a sec and go down the list.

First is my '51 Chevy truck which right now is just in storage until I can get to it. Plans are bagged on 20's, maybe 22's, a clean resto with a hint of custom.

Next are the two trucks i don't have pics of, my '84 Silverado shortbed and '87 Chevy crew-cab dually. One of those trucks is getting an LS motor, just not sure which one quite yet.

Then there's my '01. It's been sitting for a long time now, but this year it gets done. Suicide doors, channeled on 22's, 4-pump hydraulic setup, and a 4.8l with 27k on it. It's a great truck, I've just gotta get going on it.

Oh and in the background there is the truck below, but when it was stock.

This is my '04 Silverado, and the main reason I came to this site. It's channeled on 22" Bonspeeds, painted Porsche Riviera blue, and is powered by the all too popular but very stupid decision I made - 4.3l V6. I've found a deal on an '04 4.8l, but I have no idea where to start on the swap, so I figured I'd come here. I know the '04's have some funky wiring, plus the lack of a throttle cable which my V6 does have, so I'll be asking lots of questions I'm sure.

    Anyways, that's me.

Oh and I have a really irritating and curse ridden website. Kevinwhipps.com.

Nice rides. If it were me, there would be no way I'd do a 4.8 into that truck unless you're going for fuel mileage. I'd keep looking until I found a LQ4 6.0L for a good price and then hang an intercooled front mount Trick Turbo setup on it. That truck deserves more than a plain jane engine setup.

Lol. No ****, huh? Well the deal I found on that 4.8 is so ridiculous that I figure I've got to get it for one of my trucks, maybe the '84.

Although a turbo'd 6l would be pretty killer.

I've tried searching but nothing yet, any threads on '04+ Chevy V6 to V8 swaps I can look at?

check out duckysbht's conversion. It's pretty much the same as what you'd be doing, minus an electronic throttle pedal. You could convert it to a 2002 model pcm instead and use throttle by cable. The PCM would be seperate from the truck's electronics to a point. I've never done it before but in theory it doesn't sound too difficult.

Wow man...nice vehicles you've got there! I agree with Red, you need to do something decent with the drivetrain if you are making the asthetics that nice on the outside. Yes, there are a few good write-ups out there in the V8 Conversions section of the forums... You will be doing a lot of reading, but you will eventually get there. Good luck man--and ask as many questions as you can...

Yeah, you guys may be right on that one. The '04 is officially done now, so I'm gonna put a for sale sign on it for a ridiculously high amount at World of Wheels and see if I get any takers. If I do, then off it goes. If not, then I'm going to work on the '84 or the dually and then start on a swap for the '04.

Any clue what an LQ4 runs for?

A decent, lower mileage, turn-key LQ4 should be about $1200-$1400.
