Whats the deal?, On my 99 is 5/16 going to work or should I go with 1/4?
I have read around, 6" longer than the cam, Homedepot rod etc...

I can't afford the JPR tool, nor do I want too and didn't know if it works on the trucks anyways, it should?

I havn't ruled out magnets either.

    Whats everyone having luck with?

I think most are just turning the cam around until the lifter sticks up then removing the cam without a tool. I think most find the tool is not worth the trouble.

All I had to do was spin the cam and the lifters stayed up

i would not chance it. pull the lifters out if you have to, just don't lose the order of the lifters. if one falls into the oil splash tray, you will be lucky if it falls all the way clear, otherwise you will be dropping the pan. No fun. If you leave a fallen lifter in the bottom and it doesn't go all the way down into to pickup tube area, it will be in the crankshaft area and will cause extreme damage before it actually leaves that area. Can you say $1000 cam change?

use metric all thread to guide the cam into the block, not SAE pitch thread. Take the bolt that goes through the center of the cam to the local hardware store with you and match it up to the threads and diameter. All thread is cheap.

I made mine out of 1/8 inch piano wire from a hobby shop. Make it 4inches longer than your cam and bend 1inch at a 90deg. up. Ls1howto.com cam can help with a pictures of the JPR. You shouldn't have a problem. I've spoke to a shop that does alot of cam swaps. And they use to just spin the cam UNTILL they had a lifter fall. It's a mess tring to retrieve. Now they use the JPR tool. And yes I agree the tool is pricey for a one or two time use. JUST MAKE ONE.. PM me if you need help.

    P.S. total cost $1.76
