    ls1 or 6.0 into 71 chevelle

Hey guys, i just bought a 71 chevelle. it had a 71 vette motor in it with some goodies and a turbo 400 with a shift kit. the oppertunity came up to sell it for a good price to i took the offer and am now looking for a new power plant. This car usto be a drag car and i am thinking about building it back up along those lines. I was thinking about an ls1 with a cam and new valve train intake and throttle body with a poweradder at some point. But then i was looking at prices and thinking maybe the 6.0 would be a better starting point. I know there is the lq4 and lq9 and the stock horsepower is different but are there anything else about the engines that is different? and what do you think would be the best base to build off of? its going to be a year or two project and its not my first so im not to nervous about the cost of time involved. I was also wondering what it would take to wire up the engine and get it running. Any help would be awesome!

    Thanks
    Garett

71 Chevelle needs at least the 572ci 720hp GM crate engine. Have some fun and it looks like it belongs in there

620 hp 572? You're never going to equal the TQ of a big block without spending a whole lot more. You can still have fun with a 6L but not nearly as much.

Scoggin Dickey at SDParts.com: Performance Parts, Racing Engines, Racing Engine Parts, Race Engines, Race Engine Parts - SDPC

Buy one, I just saved you a few grand.

Come to think of it, one of those would be awesome in my truck. Wanna buy a 408?

haha ya but 13 grand is still a bit of money upfront. I was thinking of doing the motor and trans for like 10 grand done. Id really like to throw a blower cam in it and put like a 50 trim tunro on it. I dont know what either of the blocks can hold for boost even with copper head gaskets and stuff? Id like to make it fuel injection too, thats why im leaning towards the ls1/ls1/6.0

Talk to Billy at TRTTurbo(screen name TRTTurbo here), he can get you headed down the right path. They finished up a Gen3 conversion on a early 70s Buick not long ago. Nice combination but no turbo. I'd think a forged 370 (starts with an iron 6L block) with low compression pistons would be a good start for a turbo Chevelle.

Garett--There is a member who has a 70 Chevelle with a monster turbo on it. Search around on the threads and try to find him. Contact him with how he built his ride...

There are two chevelle conversions on ls1tech that I have been following. One is a 70(I think) with a turbo and one is a LS1/T-56 into a 71 Chevelle. They are under the conversions, but if you can't find them, let me know I will try to find the links.
