    6.0L questions

Sorry if i am asking too many questions but i need to know, lol...Now with the 6.0L...im pretty sure that would bolt right up to my 4l60e but would it be too much for it?...i see everyone using the 4l80e for the 6.0L...and what is the exact difference between a long block and a short block?...would they both bolt up in the same engine bay?

The 4L60e will be fine behind a stock 6.0L. As with any engine, once you start building more HP you're going to start finding weak links in your driveline. Most often it will be the G80 if you have one. Next would be the stock transmission that should be built up to handle the additional HP.

The 6.0L will bolt right in replacing the 4.8 or 5.3 engine without any real mods other than a PCM tune update.

A longblock is the term for a complete engine without its accessories. A shortblock is the term for an engine without cylinder heads ( Block, Crank, Rods, Pistons ). A G80 is the GM designation for the differential that most of our trucks have in them.

I would focus my attention on the 4L60E first, then the G80. Both are prone to failure under modified 6.0L (have a few personal friends that have blown each a number of times). With the trans, you'll hear the standard items as performance upgrades such as Transgo HD2, servos (I'd use Sonnax 2nd & 4th), Red Eagle clutches, etc. But, there's an assortment of weak components that might seem small, but are important to look at (i.e. 1-2 accumulator piston, forward sprag... just to name a couple).

Make sure your budget allows for replacing that G80 with an Eaton or Auburn unit (POSI). That's a great investment b/c the G80 is a bomb under increased power of a mod'd 5.7L or 6.0L (5.3L N/A might last w/ TM, but then again, removing TM on any one of those may help end the G80's life sooner than expected).

    Good luck!
