help with my transmission swap nightmare

Well after picking up my 5.3 for the swap last year I started the hunt for a trans.
The truck had a pre 4l60e with the cable kickdown and since I'm going dbw I figured a newer upgrade was in order.
Well I went on the hunt and found a used 01 60e that was supposedly from a tahoe.
Upon getting it I noticed the bellhousing wasn't a v8 bellhousing.
That should have thrown up a red flag, I know but it was Christmas time and I had a ton of other things fighting for brain cell usage at the moment.
So my dumb arse went and bought a v8 bellhousing and bolted it on...
Tranny served its purpose for mock up and sat untouched for a while.... So now that I'm closer to putting them together I figured I would start on the rebuild for the 60e.
So one afternoon while wasting some time before the wife and I go out to dinner I get the bright idea to run the numbers on the tranny. Turns out this 60e is from an 01 s10 with the 2.2!
I swear smoke came out of my ears.
So did I buy a very expensive paperweight or can this be salvaged?
I planned on a rebuild from the getgo, but I remember something about the ls trannies having a different input shaft or something like that.
Can I build the 2.2 tranny up to handle the 5.3?
If so wth do I do about a converter if the input shaft is different and I'm using an ls v8 bellhousing?
Or should I just go out and hunt down a 5.3 tranny and eat the cost of the crap I purchased?
I'm so pissed at myself for not thinking the tranny purchase thru that I can't think straight on the next step to take. I knew something was up when the bellhousing didn't check out... Geez I shoulda stopped right there.
