I just aquired a '95 Tahoe 4X4 automatic, with a 5.7 TBI that is dead. I also was given a 5.7 Vortec that is a 4 bolt main motor. That is all I know of the motor since I have not picked it up yet. It needs a crank kit is all to be a good motor, oil pump got weak and scored the bearings, this I know but I don't know what it came from. My question is; would I be better off using the Vortec once I get it freshed up and what would be involved in the swap keeping it a Vortec and doing away with the TBI. I could find a good 5.3 but am not certain of what is involved in that swap as well. I am going to be using this as a daily driver.
I am looking a the money aspect of doing the swap. I have loads of talent but not much with GM products. I have been a Ford person for more than 40 years, (grew up in custoom body shop for Ford speed).
