My goal for the summer is probably going to be building a 6.0 (LQ4) for my 94 z71. Since i am looking to buy a complete engine/tranny/computer setup from a 2500hd truck (4l80e) and hopefully with low-ish miles, i am wondering how much the stock LQ4 internals and such can take? I would LIKE, if money allows, to run a single turbo setup, and then probably a set of ported 317 heads, cam, tune, the standard bolt ons, e-fans, etc. Realistically what kind of boost and hp/tq can the stock internals handle? I would either like to build it to a safe level if the engine has low miles already and then either build something new or rework this one down the line, OR just go forged from the get go and not worry about it. Obviously sticking to stock internals is gonna save some money, and if they are fine up to a good amount of power then i will definitely stay there for the time being. however, if it wont be up to snuff, then i will go strong from the beginning.
BTW specs of the truck at 94 z71 ex cab short bed, 12" lift, 38 toyos, 20's, 10 bolt (bye bye). Looking for a real nice upgrade to the reliable but kinda gutless TBI 350, so i am gonna try to squeeze out as much power as the budget/driveability will allow and hope my 10 bolt holds long enough enough to afford a 14FF (i dont hot rod it so i think i should survive awhile). looking to go 4l80e for the increased strength and also the fact that i do tow our 21' boat sometimes.
