I reworked my 2002 harness. I went and got the mating connectors for the inline harness connectors in the harness already. I have it set up so that the whole engine harness is disconnectable and every connection is watertight. Also all power circuits are fused as designed by GM. It's worth spending the time to do this right so it doesn't become a problem in the future. If you need part numbers for the connectors let me know.
I also did this. I did no cutting to the orignal harness. I mated the GM connectors to a 1997 Camaro LT1 fuse/relay block. With this block came the harness for the e-fans and the connector for the cruise control so it just got better and better. I did splice into the orignal 2002 LS1 harness for speedo, tach and a couple of other things. Using the connectors worked out nice when I got a added the SLP cooling fan switch, it just pluged right in!
