S10 vs. Colorado - Pro and Cons of LS 5.3 swap either 4L60E or NV3500

I am thinking about upgrading my S10 to a Colorado. My S10 is actually my Dads and was going to buy it from him but I think the Colorado is much nicer truck. The 2004/2005 can be picked up as little as $3000 - just few bucks more than a good S10.

From what I have read, the 2nd gen S10 swap is not really too bad since the 5.3 engine harness plugs in to the S10 fuse fox after re-arranging the wires.

My 2001 5.3 is cable operated throttle body and I know all the Colorado are drive-by-wire.

What are the Pro and Cons of LS 5.3 swap either 4L60E or NV3500 in S10 vs. Colorado ?

    Thanks

colorado would be more bolt-ons than fabrication. later models came with it from the factory.
but you can find it cheaper for the s-10, plus a little notch; and since you already have it, it your decision.

Well, the Colorado is much newer truck and comes with newer style e40 computer where the 2001 Silverado came with the older 411 style computer. From what I am finding so far, the Colorado's ECM interacts with the body control module (BCM) a lot different than the older trucks. Even the ignition is routed through the BCM. I am not worried about the mechanical aspect but more worried about the electrical part of it!

Why not just buy a Colorado that came from the factory with the 5.3?

Try 8-15k buster. They made them for several years and can be found used for about what it would cost you to do the swap.

coming from someone who is in the middle of a s10 swap. if there is one available with a v8 from the factory, spend a little more and get the one with a factory v8. makes life 10x easier AND cheaper in the end. everything will look right, and function like factory.
