    5.3 into a 1990 OBS with a 5 speed

Have asked this question on other forums but no luck.
I have an 06 5.3L that is gong into my 1990 OBS. I want to keep the 5 speed and was wondering if the flywheel will work on the 5.3L motor.

This is the truck. Just bought a month ago.
    plans:

    4/6 drop
    All new front suspension compnents
    5.3l motor
    harness and PCM
This is at the house and waiting to be installed
I also have a 6.0 that I will be building for the next couple of years or so.
Finally going forged 408 and turbo!

You need an 01-05 4.8 5speed flywheel. There is ZERO aftermarket versions, so you're stuck with the heavy stocker

    Stocker it is!
Dam i was hoping for something lighter but at least it is possible. I didn't want to spend more money on a trans swap right now.

Not to hijack your thread, but I'm doing this very project, as well, and am wondering what all is involved w/ making the 5-speed mate up w/ the 5.3L.

Any and all info would be greatly appreciated.

BTW... what 5-speed transmission is in the '90 Silverado? I thought it was an NV3500, but now I'm not so sure.

    Thanks

As above posted all you need is the flywheel from an 01-05 flywheel from a 4.8 motor. I got a NV3500 because I had to replace the original because it took crap on me. But I think my truck came with a gettrag or something like that. NV3500 did not show up until later.

Nice, thanks. I figured there was more to it than just the flywheel.

Everything I've been finding uses Getrag 290 & NV3500 synonymously. Hmmm... but wikipedia says the NV3500 didn't show up until '93.

There is actually NV1500 NV2500 and the 3500.

there is more to it than the flywheel. there is a difference in bellhousing depth that must be taken into account. am in process of a 4.8l swap into my 90 c1500 with getrag 290 5spd. i used an ls1 flywheel for a camaro ss with my stock truck clutch and flywheel. had to find a longer clutch release bearing. napa part number n1086sa. found this info researchin on ls1tech and its working for me so far

    Thanks for the info!
But you say that you use the flywheel off of an ss camaro with your stock clutch and flywheel. I'm asuming you mean that you use the ss flywheel with the stock clutch. Correct?

lmao. yeah, my mistake. my head been rattled lately. am puttin the 90 together with all kinds of headaches, workin on putting my 04 back together too, and having to deal with gettin my 2 little boys from the state after my exwife got kids taken away. so a lot going on right now. what i meant is the ss camaro flywheel with my truck clutch and pressure plate.
