Question 03+ Pickups Radio Wiring Harness

Okay so i have an 02 and my buddies got an 03 silverado , i installed my new deck no problems bough the dash kit and the lil adapter that goes to the radio ant. and the adapter for the deck but turns out the same adapter isnt used for his truck and i guess the "special" adapter you need for it to work is like 120$ at best buy so any ideas to get around this?

(BTW sorry if this is a repeated question)

Yeah I wish I knew too, I bought the stupid adapter. But I'd rather just plug it in and be done, wiring is something I have ZERO patience for.

i wired around it...i don't have that expensive ass adapter on mine. I forget which wire it was, but I just send it straight to an Switched IGN wire and it works great. I just don't have any dingers...which is perfect

Its called retained accessory power. All the lights in the dash stay on until the door is opened so the ignition wire in the column will keep the RAP. I believe its a brown wire, about 12ga, in the bundle coming from the column.

You can wire around it, as long as you don't have BOSE or want to retain Onstar. If you have those you will need a GMOS-04. Axxess makes it and it works well. Around $75-$100, Retains chimes (volume adjustable), retains ONstar, retains BOSE, retains RAP and you don't have to run any wires to the fise box or the column.
You actually can use the BOSE amp without the module, but it is a lot of trouble and I don't do it on installs I do. People don't want to pay for the labor involved, but they will pay for the module, so.....

If you get your switched ignition feed from the right source you can do it. Have to do this a lot for adding modules to factory stereos that you want to stay on with the stereo in RAP.

I didn't know that you could retain RAP without a module but bypassing bose is simple. There is a harness clipped to the firewall side of the sub-dash behind the a/c controls, unplug it and plug your basic harness (70-2003 or aftermarket radio harness) into the male side and its bypassed.
