12 Volt Test Lights Are A No-No On Computers!

Some may already have known this...I didn't. Just learned that it is possible to damage an LSx computer, if you are using a basic 12 volt light-bulb tester/probe, when testing computer wires. Its recommended that only a digital LED readout tester be used. Live & learn, I guess.

True dat! A digital vom is highly recommended when working on any vehicle w/a computer due to a test light back feeding voltage. Even a "computer safe" test light can cause damage. I remember learing all this back in '98 when another installer I was working w/was probing around a new Cavalier and fried the BCM w/out knowing and the car wouldn't crank. Tow truck back to the dealer for that one!
