    Spec a cam...

So... im getting closer to finishing the motor and with the recent upgrade of springs good to .660 im looking at going with a bigger cam than what i was going to run which was the 228r.
Motor will be an iron 5.7 stock rods/pistons, P&P'd 862's, haven't got the heads back yet so I dont know the flow yet but I should find out soon, And no more than a 150 shot. Probably going to run at least a 3500 stall also

    I was thinking the tsp 233/239 on a 112lsa
    Or an MS3 on a 112lsa

    all ideas and questions welcome!

Comp won't give the specs for an optimal camshaft, only what they have on the shelf or in their database already.

that would be a first for me to hear of. Post it up.

They spec'd me out a cam and it was off the shelf, POS IMO, doesn't run like it should since my 408 only put down 400 HP to the dyno running their cam suggestion. The tune was pretty much spot on after a live tune.

comp couldnt spect a cam for a stock engine if you ask me!!

to the OP, that 233/239 is a tight duration but deffinately nice what size lift you looking for? good to hear 3500 would be the least, i would go 4k then again its gonna depend on what youre after with your setup

David, lift im not really worried about since the springs are good to .660 but if they heads flow lets just say 300 at .600 lift then it would be overkill to run a .630 lift if the heads can't handle it.
Im going to at least run a 3500 stall probably closer to 4k though.
Its going to be a street/strip/every other daily.

if your heads flow lets say 300 at .600 i would go with something in the hood of 612 BUT if i was you i would spend the 25.00 and get patrick to spect the cam to your needs and your mods, its part of matching everything up. your stall will be determined somewhat on the cam size but yeah more then likely a 36-4k stall is gonna fit ya well

well this is a pasted email i got. I gave him this info 4000 lb truck, 4.10 with spool, 4l80e (willing to go up to 3000 stall) custom suspension will dead hook in the rain, no emissions, no ac, no power steering or brakes, stock intake, stock injectors, 345/55/15 dragradials about 31 in tall, stock 317 heads, about 9.5.1 compression .
    Hello Robert,

I recommend a custom grind camshaft. I have listed the specs below.

    Part #: 54-000-11

    Grind #: 3724/3725 HR112+2

    Duration @ .050”: 228/230

    Lift w/ 1.7 Ratio: .588/.592

    LSA: 112

    Advance: +2

I recommend the 26918-16 springs with this cam. The computer will require
a tune. If you have any questions, let me know. Thanks.
