    4l60e Tranny Questions...

OK...I see and hear a lot about these transmissions. I'm guessing that most feel these trannys are weak. What specifically is it about them that is the weak link? Obviously I have the same tranny...as do most with 1/2 tons. What should I look out for? I have experienced a few symtoms with my transmission. First...I noticed that the tranny was slipping...my truck was still under warranty so I took it in and it turned out that it was extremely low on tranny fluid. No leaks anywhere...so where did the fluid go? The dealer thought that it may have leaked into the transfer case oil...so they checked and everything was OK...any ideas? That's been 6 months ago...and a few times this week I've noticed some slipping again...I'll check the fluid level tomorrow, but is this one of the signs that the tranny is giving up? If there are so many issues with the 4l60e trannys...why do they keep making them? Can these trannys be built up to beefier standards? I'm wondering if the 33's and 35's have taken their toll on the tranny??

    What do you guys think?

I'm a black sheep on this forum when it comes to my opinion on the 4L60E. It is a great transmission and can be built up to handle 450-550 horse and still be reliable. As far as your truck is concerned i would get a tranny flush, if the problem persists then have it looked at more thoroughly.

I guess there are 2 black sheep on this forum, I also like the 4L60E, they have come a long way from that junkie 700R4 that came out in 1982.
