    LQ4 replacement options

my dad has a 02' 1500HD with the 6.0 i assume its the LQ4. He is looking to put a newer motor in. there is nothing wrong with the motor, it just has the standard piston slap. For some reason he has always hated that and wants to put a newer one in. after doing some research i never knew the early models only had 300hp/360tq. with that being said what years would there be no issues replacing it. i figured any 07' classic or older would work. obsiously newer than 01' to have the aluminum heads. what year did they fix the piston slap issues? I also noticed these year LQ4's had their peak output pretty high in the rpm range, is the LQ9 any better? he uses it for towing regularly but its also his DD. would a LQ4 or LQ9 be better for replacement? what year did the LQ4 get 325hp/380tq? thoughts? gary

haha i wish. i think we are going for more direct swap for now. if anything was going to get a 408 it would be my S10!! on a side note this motor will be going into my S10 with a few mods to it!!!

I think the Lq4 is a lot more boost friendly than the Lq9 is and I have also been looking at doing a 408 NA but scared of gase mileage because of my truck being a daily driver!

his truck will never see boost. he isnt into hardcore modding but wants a little more than its got now. i figured an LQ9 with a nice tune would be quite an improvement from what its got now. gary
