Oil pressure sensor for 96-00 truck gauge

Will the oil pressure sensor from an '06 LQ4 work correctly with the 96-00 gmt400 oil pressure gauge? Or should I just use my stock sensor from my 99 tahoe and use the autometer 2268 adapter.

in my 94 i used my stock oil pressure sensor. but i dont have the type of valley cover you have.
your water temp sensor can be moved to the water pump right behind the tensioner..works perfect. use a 9/16 drill bit an a 3/8 NPT tap to get the sensor to thread into the water pump.
your throttle cable should be long enough.

if you can get the pigtail to the 5.3 sensor i dont see why you cant cut your connector off an solder/shrink wrap the new pig tail into place.

I'm all for building on a budget but this is were keniff and I disagree. I usually do a cost-benefit analysis of whatever I'm buying(or not buying). If I can buy an 18 dollar adapter to keep from having to drill and tap somethin then I do it. Adapters are on pg 94 of S&Ps catalog. Just thought I'd give you two ideas to choose from.

As for your original question....I'm not sure.

i have a gen IV block. it has a LS7 valley cover that has an oil sensor in it. its a 16mm that is easy to retap to a 3/8 therefore i retaped it for the 3/8 an saved myself 25.00 an time down.
im not willing to drill the oil cooler block off plate, nor was i willing to run my oil pressure gauge down by the oil filter which has constant heat from my long tube headers.

i dont see how the oil pressure sensor from the LQ4 will work with an older gauge. if S&P's adapter will bolt in at the top of the block like the LQ4s stock sensor but use yours id def spend the 25.00 to get by that problem.

good luck man..keep us updated on what you decide

Keniff is could be right about the heat but S&P sells a block off plate with the bung already tapped that just replaces the stock plate.

yep they do. if i had a gen III block id ask if they have an adapter that puts the oil pressure sensor on top of the block behind the intake. no heat, no worries.

I totally forgot I posted this question.

I will be using the dual element water temp sensor part number 12551708. One output to the gauge and one to the pcm.

If the original Lq4 oil sensor doesn't work with my 99 tahoe gauge then I'll just use autometer's adapter part number 2268 (1/8'' NPT to M16x1.5) for $9 on amazon shipped instead of the more expensive adapter from S&P.

    Thanks for the input guys.

Sounds good except I'm not sure the water temp gauge and the ECM require the same signal.

my harness only requires the temp sensor. i had to drill into the top of my water pump to allow my stock gauge to read the temp. your LQ4 harness temp plug will cause you to get false readings on your temp gauge in the truck bc it's different.
