    nOOb from SA

Just saying HI. I have a '89 1500 with a 4.3L 5spd. I would like to put an ls1 into it and go auto. Just really looking for information and trying to figure out just how much trouble I will run into. I want to lower the truck, get it painted, and do a custom interior. I can do almost all the work myself.

Oh yeah, the truck is on it's second engine and has 335k on it.

Welcome to LS1truck! Holy High Mileage Batman! 335K?
Going from a LB4/HM290 to a LS1/4L60e would be a pretty intensive swap, considering it is a OBS.

Not a big deal but it would be simpler to buy a NBS V8 truck unless you've got your heart on preserving the 89. My 92 was a V6/5spd before the LS1/4L60E. Lots of money invested during the switchover but well worth it when it came to the pleasure, plus the truck is lighter than a NBS truck.

Don't have my heart set on the '89 except I like the single cab 8' bed and I own it.

I don't want an extended cab or a 4 door, and the number of single cabs is few(er) and further between as the years go up.
