86 Silverado 2 wheel drive. Removed 6.2 diesel and auto. Now has LS1 and 4L60E from 98 Camaro. Everything bolted up fine. Now its time to pull it back out for all the small stuff. My first questions are 1) fuel rails. Do they need to be sent to S&P and if so, why. 2) on the harness, Allen seems to be quite a bit cheaper than S&P. Same quality? Good customer service(gonna have some questions). Thanks in advance.

The only reason to send the fuel lines to S&P would be to add a return line and fuel regulator in place of the dampner that's in it now.

Allen's harness would do you just as good as S&P's. Yes, the same quality.

The only advantage is a little bit cooler fuel, otherwise it's a wash. I'm on my second conversion of a 98 LS1 into a OBS C1500 and did not do the return type system on either one. I run the Corvette type fuel filter and it's a simple install with only one hose going to the front of the truck after the internally regulated fuel filter.

Any advice on drive by wire v/s drive by cable? Does my throtle body have to be worked on or will it work ok as is. If you do everything S&P says to do, you could easily spend more on the small stuff than on the motor and trans. Thanks

Drive-by-wire (DBW) would be nice on these hybrid builds. The '02 OEM harness I have has the connector for it, but I'm not using. I decided to go with a cable driven TB. I thought the DBW would be a bit extra being that I'd have to get the accel pedal to work with that. Much easier for me to go with the cable. Stock F-body cable should work just fine (junkyard find). I had to work & bend (slightly) my accel pedal to accept the longer cable. You may have to file out the hole for the plastic firewall connector/gromet (slightly larger piece than OBS piece).

As for S&P's advice, "measure twice, cut once" is a phrase my father told me. My interpretation for this case, take the advice, research & confirm, make the decision that best suits you. I called them asking about fuel delivery based on the '77 C10 conversion they have posted on the web, and the guy I talked to seemed as if he was unsure of what was on the website (under their projects section). Every answer was "I think" this & "I think" that. Not good enough for this engineer.

These types of hybrid builds will cost you a bit on the "knick-knack" stuff. When it's all said & done, I will have spent nearly the same on the knick-knacks as the engine/trans itself.

For Example: gauges, radiator, e-fans, fuel pump, driveshaft, gears & posi... just to name a few.

Thanks for your take on it. The yellow 77 you are talking about is basically what I am doing. Not a show truck. No flash under the hood. I want it just like chevrolet would have done it. Then add a supercharger just for fun! Anyway, Im not knocking S&P at all. They know what they are doing. When I called the tech line it was Mark (the owner) who answered. But everything they touch starts at $200. Billet motor mount plates are great in car shows but have no place on a daily driver. I plan on ordering a harness next week. S&P gets $950 for theirs. It looks like several others offer a harness for around $600. Same harness???

When you buy directly from S&P you pay MSRP. Many retailers buy from S&P and sell below the MSRP. Check around, call your local streetrod shops and see if they sell S&P products and you;ll get a better price than direct.
