    LS1>TBI help

Hey guys been looking into ls swapping my 95 sclb 2wd GMC sierra and was just looking for some input from those that have done similar swaps. Was thinking about a 5.3L lm7 with heads, probably LS2? cam, intake ported throttle body And 36lb injectors. So on that note, should I go through the headache of going that route and dealing with the wiring mess? Or should I take the money and build the tbi motor I already have?? I'm stumped and just looking for friendly truthful input on the pros and cons. Or could I still take the LS route and run a fast tbi on it and not have to deal with the wiring hassle? Thanks for any advice guys.

I guess it largely depends on your budget. I just pulled my 350 out this weekend and now have my 6.0 LQ9 sitting pretty in its place. Doing the swap is pretty intimidating but also pretty exciting. It took a lot of research on multiple forums to come to the conclusion that I needed to upgrade to the LS world. If you don't want to spend a bunch of money, then stick with the old TBI motor and throw a cam and tune at it. If you're looking to experience true power potential, spend the money, get a 6.0L, and throw an LS2 cam and intake on it with some long tube headers. If you're planning on building something with boost go with the 5.3 but if it's just going to be n/a than there's no replacement for displacement. I'm not even finished with my swap but I was extremely happy to pull that old gutless grease bomb out of my truck.

Ray I wish I had an extra $850 for one of your harnesses but at least I'm having you guys tune my ECM. I just wish your tuner was in town so he could finish mine today! I'll be back in Killeen tonight and won't be able to pick it up until the end of the week

Best thing do do is dump the old gas gussling 350 and tbi system altogether and do an LS swap. U can probably do it all for under $1000 or less. If u can find a donor vehicle it will make the swap alot more easier. If ur on a budget heard the 4.8 is great for daily driving or for boosting and just has a bit less power than the 5.3 (I swapped In a 5.3 in my 94 c1500). 6.0 is ideal but very desirable and pricey. Between all 3 wire harnesses are about the same. U can mod your own harness thru lt1swap.com and he can remove vats (vehicle anti-theft system) from the ecu for like $75. Vats must be removed after you swap it in or truck will not start. I pieced my swap together and it was a pain looking for parts on the cheap. So that's why a donor vehicle is best. Any drive train under 150k miles donor vehicle is fine. U need mounts and if you do the harness yourself, u save alot and it doesn't take but a few wires to hook up the LS harness to ur truck.
