    2005 Tahoe trans swap

My Brother has a 2005 Tahoe with about 123,000 miles and he tows (about a 5000lbs trailer) with it. The transmission (pretty sure a 4L60e) is starting to make some bad whining noises - shocking, I know. I've dealt with many 2wd 4L60e transmissions before, but this will be the first undertaking of a 4wd 4L60e vehicle. I'm just pulling the trans out, so that I can take it to a local trans shop for repair, then reinstalling it. So it's just a swap. Is there anything in particular I should know or look out for, being that this is a 4wd vehicle? I understand I'll have to deal with the transfer case and an additional driveshaft, but I'd rather not run into any unpleasant surprises while working on a vehicle my Brother drives when taking his family camping. Thanks in advance.

~ Forged engine of some type ~ Ball bearing turbo of an unconfirmed size ~ 4L8000 trans ~ Beefy fuel system ~

not much different at all, when you split the t-case from the transmission have a drain pan handy. Ive always pulled the t-case off then pulled the transmission. Its just too heavy and awkward to balance as one unit. Biggest thing is when you mate them back together to make sure and clean the surfaces really good, and let the silicone set up on the paper gasket. Other than that its easy, just more crap to dissassemble..

I always separate them at the very back of the trans there's no gasket just a rubber o ring and the ppl building ur trans will prob give u z new one. There's a sweet spot on the transfer to get it to drop, not much of a problem. After that I pull the cross member and let the trans down and u can get the top bell housing bolts pretty easy. Not a bad job I pulled my friends in his 05 silverado in bout 45 min. But was on a lift. Good luck, and have fun lol
