    Knocking Sound!!

So my 5.3 has a knocking sound, could it be the cam, lifters and push rods? Any local shops in SA that wont charge an arm and a leg to get this fixed? The seller is giving me the run around and i just want to get my 84 on the road!

Can you get a stethoscope to pinpoint where the knock is coming from (you can get one from Harbor Freight for cheap)? If not, maybe a long handled screwdriver?

I guess that will be my next purchase. I also took the valve covers of and the one on the driver side had marks from the rockers. Those sections weren't really stained by the oil.

I think that you would only be hiding the problem from yourself for a little while by putting the equivalent of oily molasses into your engine, that stuff isn't a fix for the problem it's a cover up kinda like putting red tape on a busted out taillight

You said the rockers are hitting the valve covers. Are they aftermarket? That could be your sound. Check and make sure they are tight. Rockers shouldn't be touching the valve cover.

No, its the stock covers. I removed the covers one at a time and checked the rods and tightened the rockers back to 22. When I started the truck with either cover off you couldn't hear the knocking. Seems likes its echoing off the covers.

When you say tightened back....were the rockers loose? If so I would be willing to bet that was your problem.
