    Another Obs Ls Swap

Hey guys been a long time lurker and collecting parts at the same time. So I will start off by giving a little backround info of My truck. The truck is a 1989 gmc sierra z71 stepside, that a guy in our marina had since 1995 I had always bugged him to sell me the truck but he kept saying he would never sell it. It then turned out to be a work truck and then he needed money so in 2008 I bought the truck from him for $500 to be used as a mud truck. The truck made it to one mud run and I decided i needed a project after that. So it all began with tearing the cab, box and everything off the frame. I then had all the suspension and frame redone and powder coated red. Every nut, bolt and bushing has since been replaced. the next step was to have the body re-done. it turned out that the cab needed new rockers and cab corners while in the process i cleaned the inside of the cab and had it rhino lined to seal everything up and mounted seat out of a 2006 denlai. so i replaced those and i also added new fenders as well. then for the motor i had just a basic 350 roller with some slight bolt ons and some mild head work. alot of my friends now have the nbs trucks and started doing some 6.0l swaps so i am not going to lie i jumped on the band wagon when i found a 2004 lq9 out of a silverado ss with 100 000km and 4l65e and awd transfer case for $800. the one downfall was the wiring had been cut and there was no computer. that was not a big issue since a guy that runs a speed shop around here had a carb set up on the same motor. i have stripped the motor down completely por15'd the block, bought the edelbrock 7118 intake and msd box and a 750 holley double pumper carb. I have bought a areomotive by pass regulator so i can still run my factory intank fuel pump since it is brand new and i have gone with the pace setter long tube headers. i have already pulled my transmission and driveline and disconneccted all the wiring and hoses going to my tbi motor. the only thing left is to pull the tbi motor out. i know you guys like pictures so i will post some of the truck. dont mind the dust i forgot to put the cover on it over the winter.

thanks guys some love the red and some hate it. as to the gauge cluster that was a royal pain in my ass. finding all the wires from the stock wiring harness which did what and then running power and grounds for every light and gauge in there. the mirrors were a bad idea i found them on ebay and from the pictures they looked to be a decent size but when they arrived they were only 4". the other news is i have the motor out and sold it for 900 to another guy with a tbi. but i came to a complete hault last night when i went to put the ls into the truck. i bought the transdapt 4572 motor mount apapters and measured the centre hole on that and the centre hole on the tbi from the tranny housing face and the transdapt mounts move the motor back 1.5 so 14.5" from the tranny housing and the old tbi is right around 16" so what motor mounts should i get and what are the part numbers. the reason i went with the 4572 was because it was suppose to keep the motor in the stock location.

Dirty dingo is what im getting... they're adjustable so u can stick the ls in the original place. (And use the original frame brackets) Alot of ppl on this forum and others have used them and they're specifically designed for this kind of swap!! Just go to dirtydingo.com and use the motor mount kit for 88-98 4wd trucks and blazers.

not sure where i left off. so the motor is in. all the drive line is in (transmission/transfer case/ drive shafts). i have mounted the fuel pressure regulator to the fire wall since i had the braided stainless lines there for the tbi set up and thats where there was enough room to mount regulator with out modifying my lines. i powered up the msd box for carb setup. just needs a ground and 12v acessory power wire and one wire that powers the tach. then just a couple plugs for a map sensor. crank sensor and cam sensor. the final wire is for ac which the truck does not have so i didnt have to worry about that one. next step was to put on the pace setter headers. they fit relatively well. there was only 2 issues with these headers for me. the first was with running the 700r4 the one header just slightly rubs the transmission housing where the bottom dust cover bolts to. i just used a sawzaw to trim that back a 1/4" the second issue was on the drivers side frame rail the one tube for the header rubs the frame. when the truck goes in to have the exhaust joined the guy is going to heat the tube up a little bit and bend it over for me. so now that everything was hooked up. it was time to start it. i go to turn the key and no fuel pressure. it turns out since i was running the factory fuel pump to supply the pressure regulator. that my original computer needs to see oil pressure to send power to the fuel pump. good thing i didnt cut out any of the original harness. i had to build a t out of aluminum so i could run an original sensor and one for my mechanical gauge. it fired up right away. ill post a couple pics of the headers and second start video its kind of short and needs some serious carb adjustmest but man does it sound mean and got power compaired to that wimpy 5.7
