    What year trannys work??

    i have a 1999 gmc sierra reg cab short bed 4x4 and i swapped the5.3 for a 6,0 . now i need to get a 4l80e to replace my 4l60e. what year trannys will work with that swap?? also what transfer case do i need??? thanks guys

    not sure about the transfer case but as far as i know you can use any year 4l80e for the swap.

    Any trans newer than yours will work. Ur tcase will work.
    Just need that input gear for the tcase that accepts the 80e output shaft.

    You can use older 80e's as well, mine Is out of a 93 Rv

    Would it be cheeper to use the transfercase from a 2500 with a 80e? or will it even work?

    ya thats what im wondering. i want to find the best deal on a trans and transfer i can to get my truck on the road.i found some from a 98 but its the older body style so i wanna make sure befor i buy it.

    i think he wants to know if you have a gen3 or gen4 engine. What color is the crank sensor, up next to the starter on the side of the block? Black is gen3 and white or grey is gen4.

    motor is from a 1999 gmc 2500. pretty sure its gen 3

    likely has iron cylinder heads, right? Any 99 and earlier 80e will bolt right to it if it has the stock flat flex plate on the engine. If you don't have a flexplate on the engine, look at the crankshaft at the back end of it and if the crank sticks out of the seal about 3/8" you just need the flat flex plate and old style 80e torque convertor.
