    Cool Noob in Louisiana!!!

Hello. I have been on this site many many times and I said today is the day! I live close to New Orleans in South La. I have a 2006 Chevy Silverado 1500 2wd ext. cab. I've done some small modifications; SS bumper cover, grant customs roll pan, recon LED taillights, factory fender flares, billet bowtie, painted mirrors, tahoe painted handles with the stainless center strip, 2" lowering shackles, mesh grill, airraid intake, turbo muffler, Escalade dash, escalade console, escalade interior handles, escalade cluster overlay + needles, double din tv, memphis components, 12" T3 subwoofer under the back seat, about 700watts of power with both amps, and a few things I've forgot. Now the only thing I don't like is the 4.3l under the hood, the big reason I joined is because soon I hope to do a 5.3l swap. So far everything I've done has been cheap as possible, in most cases almost free after I sold my stock parts, so this swap will retain as much factory (cheap) parts as possible. Now I'm saving $ and biding my time until the hour is at hand.

Welcome and good luck with the swap. Don't go too cheap on the swap, but it can be done on a reasonable budget. Just get the parts list out of the sticky from this forum and start gathering parts as you see deals come up.

    Thanks, I'm in Marrero.

Yeah, I read the 4.3 - 4.8/5.3 swap intently. I'm not great with these things but with the sticky and all that good advice I think it shouldn't be bad. I've got 70k miles and the 4.3l is just weak, I don't understand why GM didn't update the 6's when the created the LSx truck motors. I'm hoping I can get maybe $300 back outta the ol' 4.3l since people like to put them in mud-boats around here it shouldn't be too hard. Maybe I can put that to some headers? I'll have to see how short my stack is after I get all the parts.
