    EGR Delete

Hey guys, I've got thorley headers for my 01 tahoe with a 5.3. There's two AIR ports on the headers, but no EGR, so I was just thinking Id just drop the EGR system. Other than the check engine light, is there any damage that could be done to the engine without the system?

Nope. Do it. Get a tune and your tuner can shut off the code while he's at it. Go nelson performance for a nice mail order tune, you need one for the headers anyway.

when i got blackbear to tune my 01 engine, he uses the 02 PCM/OS which already don't use EGR. there was no issue whatsoever. when i put my headers on, i just pulled the whole system out & got an expandable freeze plug to stop the hole in the intake
00 FRC - just top end, exhaust, and a hot-air intake
    99 Sierra - 5.3 / 5spd

I have a bb tune as well, but I unplugged the egr harness today and I got an ses light(p0405). So I guess its still functioning? But if there is no long term effect on my engine, I don't really care about the light.

I was curious about the EGR delete too. Will it hurt performance or MPG if you dont have a tune?

The only problem with not having a tune to keep the light off is that if there is something else that were to throw a code you would never know. Thats putting yourself at risk IMO.
