    radio swap

Plain & simple, The stock radio on my 01 Silverado LS is dead.

????? can the newer STOCK head units from '03 to midyear change '07 work in my truck. Will they fit in the STOCK location???

Now the saga: The buttons stopped lighting up a while back then it was hard to switch stations. Now its dead, has power but can only get 2 stations. 1 on preset #2 the other on preset #6. AM is out & CD changer takes the disk but does absolutely nothing.

You might be sayin, go aftermarket well I'm cheap! I got less & less hours @ the job, so buying a expensive radio at this point is out of the question. Just need something that will play the radio IF it has IPOD connectivity great if not no big deal.

    Thanks

no, the newer style has different plug on the back. you might try a wrecking yard to see if they have one.

but your right i am telling you to go look into the after market, you can get a radio, harness, and dash peice cheap now days. we just did a CHEAP install on a lot truck for less than 200 bucks. and it could been done cheaper if you look hard enough.

Hey thanks, appreciate the answer that I wasn't hoping for but none the less the answer. Been on Crutchfields web site to get an idea and see what your talking about. It's aftermarket or salvage yard.

    Thanks

Try going to a local shop near you and get quoted for a complete instal. Sometimes you will be very surprised at the great deals local guys will give you.

I have a stock radio/cd player out of my 02 that I will sell you if interested. Everything works on it.

Sonicelectronics +1. That has to be one of the easiest radio installs, 95-02 chevy trucks. The 03+ radios use a different harness and mount differently. You can get a cheap dash kit and harness at Wal-mart for $20 and a used CD player on craigslist for $50. It may be cheaper, easier to swap stock-for-stock but even a cheap radio would sound better. You'd also need a antenna adapter for an aftermarket radio b/c of GM's love for the mini antenna.
If you're not first, you're last.
