    Wink need info on 4x4

I'm reading a lot of threads on swapping 5.3 into 90's style gm trucks. My question is in regards to my 95 2 door yukon 4x4. If I were to buy a 5.3 2003 engine and tranny, is it possible for this setup to work with my existing TC and 4x4 drivetrain?

I'm asking this because my current tranny is near its end and I'm not sure whether or not to rebuilt it or get the one fitted for the 5.3.

    Thanks

i would think it would be fine as long as you buy a tranny from a 4x4. would be easier imo to just put the motor in and rebuild the tranny. i did the swap in my 94 blazer should be the exact same for yours.

The one fitted to any newer engine will be way better than your 700r4. The ecm will work better/communicate with the 4l60 which would come behind a 5.3. The one you have now would bolt up, but the computer would not talk/listen to it, and it would wear out prematurely because of this.

As for bolting up to your transfer case I don't know. I'm assuming if you look around, you could find one to match, but I'm not sure to be honest.

95 and up 4l60's have the same transmission plug and harness. There are a couple internal mechanical differences I believe but it will work good. Imo, I think using the factory transmission is easiest. You will want to do a performance rebuild, I would suggest calling Dana at probuilt. But it would last a long time, and plug right in.

I just finished converting and rebuilding my 01 4l60e from 2wd to 4wd and all the electronics, clutch packs, solonoids and most of the internals are the same from 95 and up. I got this info from a buddy of mine who owns a local trans shop that is a certified gm tran tech. According to him all the 4l60e's from 95 up all use the same electronics and most of the internal components. I used parts from an exploded 97 4l60e to repair and convert my 01. To use your trans with the ls motor will require either a conversion torque convertor or adapter flexplate and torque convertor hub bushing because the ls converter is larger than yours. Also you'll only have 5 bolts holding your bell housing rather than the 8 from the ls. I would have reused my 93 trans but it has 1 less solinoid and wasn't a pwm convertor clutch and i got a heck of a deal on my motor/trans/swap parts..
