    painting help

right now i've got a black "paintable" front grill on my truck. it's been on there for a few years without any problems, but i've noticed recently that i have some spots on it that are starting to fade. obviously, since i never actually painted it, it was bound to happen.

i'm looking for good ideas/products/methods for a way to get it painted. i want it to have a glossy black finish in the end. i saw the write up on the NNBS tailgate handle, would something like that work? my main concern is with it being on the front of the truck, getting bug guts on it alot, and hence being scrubbed pretty hard sometimes, i need something that can stand up to that without flaking/peeling and what not.

lastly, i am still thinking on it, but hypothetically, if i was to want to add another color in the mix, what would be the best way to do it. i've never had very good luck with painters tape.

    thanks for the info

I just sanded my factory grille, and primered it with two good coats and it came out great. I've done it to vehicles in the past and it seems to hold good so long as you use an adeshion promoter.

You could also look into having it vinyl covered. There are quite a few people who have used vinyl to do everything form mirrors all the way to full bumpers.
